Do we look like our dogs?
Monday, 06 April 2009 16:20

p1090485A recently released study by psychologist Dr Lance Workman of Bath Spa University concluded that dog owners really do look like their pets.  A group of volunteers were asked to identify the pets that were owned just by looking at photographs of the owners.

On the other hand, the personality of the owner was found to have no connection with the choice of dog breed (though I think most Dandie owners would be proud to be compared to our dogs).  However, tests in the study showed that dog owners were nicer than the average population.

We are all familiar with Paul Keevil's famous similarity with his Dandie Crosby, but I think this photo from Crufts shows that Paul now has some competition.

It is interesting to note that Charlie Chaplin once entered a 'Charlie Chaplin Lookalike Competition' - and came third!

Kennel Club Charitable Trust
Saturday, 04 April 2009 20:39

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has kindly donated £9000 to the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Breed Council to help to fund Dr Hannes Lohi's research into the genetics of primary glaucoma.  More money is still needed to support this research, and all three UK breed clubs, and other breed clubs worldwide are working hard to raise the necessary funds.  The Caledonian Dandie Dinmont Terrier Club has agreed to donate a further £2000 from their Health Fund, and the DDTC and SDDTC are to propose to do the same at their AGMs in the next two weeks.  This will make a total of £15000 from the UK breed clubs.

Jackie Shore and Keith Derry of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier Breed Council.

In addition to financial support, DNA samples from Dandies are also needed to help with this research.  These can be in the form of either blood samples or buccal swabs.  For more information about the research, about collecting and donating DNA samples, or to make a donation towards the research, please click here to see the Dandie Dinmont Trust website.
