Glaucoma Eye Research Days
Saturday, 08 July 2017 17:55
James Oliver from the AHT has asked "Please let me know if there are any older Dandies we could screen and include in this research, like we did last year. We have made significant progress since we last spoke but we do need even more DNA samples and to examine more Dandies over 5 years old and also if possible see and examine some of the Dandies that I saw when they were younger at the club shows, that are now over 5 years old". He will send me a list of the ones he has already seen when younger so I can make personal contact with owners.
Amanda Clarkson and myself are trying to organise 2 days for this. The screening is free of charge and information gained to be used for research purposes only. If you require a BVA eye certificate then normal charges apply (£56). Please let me know when making the appointment if this is needed.
1st day on Saturday October 7th at my home in Little Birch, Herefordshire.
2nd day on Sunday 22nd October at Riverside vet practice, Livingston, Edinburgh
If you have a Dandie over 5 years old and are willing to help with this important research and can come, please let me know so I can book you in. The KC will also be contacting owners of Dandies over 5 years old. ??Our goal is 25 at each venue, so if you have an older Dandie over 5 years and can attend, please assist James Olive and the Animal Health Trust with this important research and come if you can. Refreshments will be provided.
Contact me for appointment times at both venues.

'Old Ginger' statue
Thursday, 28 January 2016 20:37

The Haining Charitable Trust have kindly agreed to Dandie enthusiasts erecting a statue in memory of the breed's founding father 'Old Ginger' at his birthplace in the grounds of The Haining. A 'Just Giving' campaign has been started to raise the necessary funds for this, with the aim of getting the statue completed in time for unveiling on Old Ginger's 175th birthday on June 4th 2017. The statue will be life size and the work of a leading Scottish sculptor, to be hot cast in bronze.

Every Dandie Dinmont alive today is descended tail-male from Old Ginger. He was bred by Robert Pringle at The Haining, but was later owned by Mr Eaglesfield Bradshaw-Smith of Blackwoodhouse, Ecclefechan. If you would like to see how your Dandie is related to Old Ginger, type your Dandie's pedigree name in the search box below...

The Trustees will also allow us to carry out some much needed restoration and repair work to Old Ginger's run and kennel building, but we will have to raise the funds for this. Again we are hoping that this will be funded from the Just Giving account.

Since the account was activated there have already been many generous donations. If you feel you would like to help, please visit the fundraising page and click on “donate”.

It is quite remarkable that Old Ginger's kennels are still in existence. It is even more remarkable that they are on a Grade A listed estate which happens to be administered by a forward thinking group of Trustees who recognise that the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is an important part of the estate's heritage.

Dandies needing a home
Saturday, 14 November 2015 19:47
A message from Glen Tinsley...
We have two mustard bitches on the books that need to be rehomed fairly soon. They are mother, 12 and daughter, 7 years and only the older girl is spayed, but I am assured they are very healthy. They have been owned and bred by someone in Dandies who has been taken into a nursing home. The dogs are at the moment being cared for by a friend of the owner but this lady has several rescue dogs and would like the Dandies to go to a knowledgeable home.
Could you all put the word around please, they need to go together if possible.
Please call or message-
