Stoneleigh Park, 23rd September 2018. Judge: Mrs Margaret Nicholson. It was a great pleasure to judge at the Southern Dandie Championship show. I thank the committee for inviting me for my last judging appointment. I was impressed with how Dandies have improved in the last few years, especially in hind movement. Front movement could be better. Feet were splayed due to long nails. Extra long backs in a few did not help their top line. In general, the bitches were better than the dogs. The line up for best bitch was extremely difficult to judge. I was splitting hairs! All the dogs had wonderful temperaments.   Dog CC Tinsley's Xoranda Secret Ron Day View to Cloverwood Reserve Dog CC Deacon's Ch. Cassencarrie Choirmaster Bitch CC & BIS Milton's Ch. Staffordshire County Showground, 27th October 2018. Judge: Mr Keith Derry (Vistca). First, I must offer my most sincere thanks to my two very efficient stewards who kept proceedings going at the right pace and were a tower of strength to me throughout my judging. The entry was quite good given the difficult times we are experiencing; however, I was dismayed at the general faults on display: poor fronts; level toplines; very close movement behind and the excessive use of scissors, in days gone by judges would not have tolerated such grooming. On the plus side, temperament was very good. I was looking for balance and shape, conformation and movement throughout but only found this in a few exhibits.   Dog CC Deacon & Hill's Ch. East of England Showground, 6th January 2019. Judge: Mrs Meriel Taylor. Many thanks to the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at this show. Thank you to the Dandie Exhibitors for their entry. I was looking for a dog that had a distinctive head, intelligent eyes and a long low weaselly body. My main winners reflected this.   Best Dog Deacon's Cassencarrie Of Course Reserve Best Dog Pettit's Cofgodas Wolf River Best Bitch & BOB Milton's Ch. His jaw is strong and he has a correct scissor bite. Good muscular neck leading into well laid shoulders. Long strong body and good spring of ribs. Feet rounded and well padded. He has a strongly made head and eyes of correct size; dark and intelligent. Good ear set on and correct scissor bite. Good neck leading into well laid shoulders. Staffordshire County Showground, 18th January 2019. Judge: Mr Ronnie Irving. The entry of 39 from 37 dogs was not too bad and it was a good omen to see a puppy bitch class with nine entries, albeit with a few absentees. This was the sixteenth and last time I will award CCs to the breed before giving up judging completely and it was very kind of so many exhibitors to sign the card wishing me well. I wish I could say that I thought that the breed was in good shape, but I felt that this was a very difficult entry to judge. I was happy with the top winners but in this entry there were dogs under-presented and dogs over-presented, there were dogs moving badly in front and some moving badly behind, there were dogs with good coats and others with poor coats. On the positive front I think that heads were pretty good in the main and that size was better than it has been in the past. I can only wish Dandie breeders every good luck and success in piloting the breed through what in my view is undoubtedly a difficult period in its history.   Dog CC Deacon & Hill's Ch. Cassencarrie Choirmaster Reserve Dog CC Harcourt-Morris's Dainty Dandies River Mersey at Lenacourt Bitch CC & BOB Rolland's Dandiroyal Cotswold Dream Reserve Bitch CC Milton's Ch. Hawkesmill Jenny for Wilmit Best Puppy McLaughlan & Fitzsimmons's Norma Jeane Baker di Luna Caprese Puppy Dog 1st: Curran's Clydeheath's Double O'Seven Scored for outline and showmanship over 2, good in head. Better in front than 2 and also moved well behind. Sometimes seemed a bit overdone in topline and could be shorter in tail. A pity he was not in the best of coats and needs to finish there. Good length and OK for size. 2nd: Bamber's Dentgate Huckleberry Good head and muzzle. OK in eye. Moves a shade close behind. Needs to have a bit more confidence in the ring. Good coat texture. Good tail Just needs time to develop and cheer up a bit! Junior Dog 1st: Gnatyuk's Dariant Chelentano Not a bad dog but completely overdone in presentation. OK in head and eye but too much topknot. Better in body coat texture than 2, and better in front. Chest well let down. Good bone and correct round feet. 2nd: McLaughlan & Fitzsimmons's Wilmit Hawkeye Pierce at Lanleadane Good in head and skull. Didn't move as well as 1 in front. Coat not at its best. Typical body shape. Good spring of rib and moved well behind. Limit Dog 1st: Harcourt-Morris's Dainty Dandies River Mersey at Lenacourt A pleasing dog not over-exaggerated in any way. Very good head and expression, enough topknot. Stood and moved well in front. Enough length of body, and topline just right. Coat in good condition. Moved out well. Went on to win RDCC. Open Dog 1st: Deacon & Hill's Ch. Cassencarrie Choirmaster Very pleasing in head and good in eye with enough strength of muzzle. Good for size. Enough neck. Shown in good coat. Moved OK in front. Typical outline and moved well going round the ring. Went on to win DCC. 2nd: Drake's Tollcross Tartan Tavish Another with a good head and skull. Scored in eye over 3, moved better than 3 in front. Coat not really at its best today which didn't help his outline and the appearance of his neck. Good tail and tail carriage. 3rd: Youngs's Inzievar The Goldsmith Puppy Bitch 1st: McLaughlan & Fitzsimmons's Norma Jeane Baker di Luna Caprese Not great in coat today when it comes to texture. OK in head and expression. Needs a bit more confidence in the ring. Moved out better behind than 2. Good for size and shape of topline and tail carried OK. Went on to be Best Puppy. 2nd: Bell's Dryfevalley Gala Another pleasing youngster though she didn't move quite so well behind as the winner. Good coat. Slightly better than 2 for topline and had a shade more coat and better in front. Pleasing tail and tail carriage. Shows well all the time and was of very good outline. 2nd: Rolland's Dandiroyal Cream Tea Not quite the topline of 1. Moved well behind, somewhat better there than 1. Could be better in front. Good head and expression with enough topknot. Good feet and bone. Plenty of length. 3rd: Thomas's Tymeirz Lulu Grace at Cumhath Postgraduate Bitch 1st: Rolland's Dandiroyal Cotswold Dream I thought an easy winner here. Just a youngster but shown in excellent coat of the right length and texture. Pleasing in general make and shape with the right outline and good topline without being overdone. Excellent head and expression with good eye. Enough muzzle. Showed all the time. Moved well in front and was good in hindquarters and moved well there. Went on to win BCC and then BOB and scored there on hind movement. 2nd: Poole's Reidswire Border Bluebell She and 3 were rather lacking in coat and she could move better. Good neck and OK shape. Good bone and feet. 3rd: Allenby's Wilmit Mildred Potter for Diddimont Limit Bitch 1st: Miller's Dryfevalley Miss Muffet Not overdone in any way and moved up and down well. She is an honest bitch and sounder in movement than some others here. Good in coat and not overdone in head but good strength of muzzle. Moved OK in front and behind. Enough length. 2nd: France's Miss Sophie di Luna Caprese at Torbrae Plenty of head furnishings and good in muzzle with correct eye. Coat OK. Moved better behind than in front. A pity that 3 was so short of coat. 3rd: Russell's Hawkesmill Karamel Res: Sleight's Mishahda Where It All Began VHC: Youngs's Dentgate Opal Open Bitch 1st: Milton's Ch. Hawkesmill Jenny for Wilmit Better than 2 for length and outline. Moved rather better in front than behind. Very good in head and expression. Good depth of chest. Shown in good coat texture though could have a shade more of it. Went on to win RBCC. She was not as good as the CC winner behind. 2nd: Harcourt-Morris's Dainty Dandies Royal Dutch Emma Lenacourt A shade shorter in body. Moved better behind than 1 but not quite so well in front. Good for size and showed really well. Well sprung in rib and has enough bone.
