Darlington Dog Show Society

Ripon Racecourse, 14th September 2019. Judge: Mrs Margaret MacDonald-Cross.

If the standard of quality in Dandies at Darlington is typical, then I was filled with dismay! There was a vast variety of type and size and movement, particularly hind movement was unbelievably bad. The correct breed construction required by the standard was few and far between, plus some very odd colour patterns have crept into the breed giving a look foreign to the Dandie Dinmont. Finally, I was astounded to find a bitch in full season standing on the judging table! I know there were mutterings round the top of my ring reference upset males. Surely this is a very unsporting thing to do and something the KC needs to address!

Minor Puppy Dog 1st: Sheppard's Thystine Tayberries
Stylish 7 mth old mustard. Won this class with a lot to spare, good head with correct bite, lovely expression, nice neck, long flexible body with well sprung rib, presents a good outline, moved really well in this class but not quite sound in the challenge.
2nd: Brown's Waffelin Leap Of Faith
8 mths, another mustard, nice type, smaller than first, not so mature or ready in coat, well presented by his young handler.
3rd: Kerle's Puddockswell Hoodwink
Res: Kidd's Thystine Loganberries with Freestone

Junior Dog 1st: Bamber's Dentgate Huckleberry
15 mths, pale pepper, attractive dog of good breed type, good head and eye, nice expression, excellent neck and front assembly, moved well, covering the ground, very well presented.

Limit Dog 1st: Stanley's Sokrovische Gardariki Aristokrat at Waffelin
Handsome, all male mustard of 2 yrs with nice headpiece and expression, covered in a great quality jacket, he moved well but would like more body shape.
2nd: Deegan's Dainty Dandies King Of My Castle
5 yr old mustard, smaller than first, shown in good coat, movement erratic.

Open Dog 1st: Chapman-King's Inzievar Gold Issue
This 19 mth old outstanding mustard is of such quality. He commands the ring! He has a super headpiece, correct bite, eye, expression, ear placement and profuse topknot, strong neck, well laid shoulders and correct front assembly, superb body properties for balance, shape and flexibility, moves soundly and with great purpose. This was his third CC. BOB. A joy to go over.
2nd: Denham's Dentgate Mulberry
2 yrs 9 mths pepper. Was my BP when I last judged the breed. To a great degree he has fulfilled his promise and is a very honest Dandie, excelling in breed type. I have seen this exhibitors dogs better presented in the past and feel this young man would really hit the high spots if a bit more flair was applied to his trimming. A Dandie to be proud of nevertheless! RCC.
3rd: Brown's Great Gatsby ze Zihelske Zahrady

Veteran Bitch 1st: Kinsey-Morgan's Ch. Inzievar Gold Effect
Now nine and a half yrs, this mustard lady is of very correct breed type, another honest Dandie with good body properties, coat quality, etc., but was completely bored with the whole proceedings, and who could blame her! Lovely lady.

Puppy Bitch 1st: Henry's Trinzy Glamour N'Grace
Sweet little mustard of 10 mths, was quite timid on the table at first but settled down with careful handling, nice headpiece with dark eye and lovely expression, rather closely trimmed but showing nice body shape, her movement lacked confidence, really good hindquarters, more ring experience needed.

Junior Bitch 1st: Denham's Dentgate Mulberry Silk
By my Res DCC winner. Peper, 15 mths, is another very honest Dandie of excellent breed type, she is so feminine throughout with lovely head, dark eye, sweet expression, nice neck and forehand, completely unexaggerated in any way, she moves so soundly round the ring showing off her correct body shape. Took the CC with ease.
2nd: Thomas's Tymeirz Lulu Grace at Cumhath
Mustard, a month younger than first, size and build very much on the same lines, sweet head and expression, very feminine, nice presentation, not moving well behind.
3rd: Weaving's Dentgate Silk Threads
Res: Allan's Cloverwood Saffron avec Clairmorin

Postgraduate Bitch 1st: Deegan's Dariant I'Bastet of Deegandan
2 yr old pepper, another sweet feminine bitch with pretty head and expression, good neck leading into well laid shoulders and neat front assembly, has a correct outline and is a smooth mover. RCC.
2nd: Stanley's Sokrovische Gardariki Astory at Waffelin
Larger proportioned bitch than first, well presented and shown in good coat, preferred type, size and movement of first.
3rd: Weaving's Dentgate Silk Threads
Res: Allan's Cloverwood Saffron avec Clairmorin

Open Bitch 1st: Brown's Henrietta Harris ze Zihelske Zahrady
Stood alone, quite skilfully shown by her young handler, two and a half yrs old, dark pepper bitch, well trimmed, quality coat, nice headpiece with profuse, silvery white topknot and feet, shapely body, moved soundly covering the ground well.
